Marijuana and breastfeeding during pregnancy are antagonistic in every action. The active agent in marijuana called as the THC or the tetrahydrocannabinol get absorbed in the fat tissues. And on constant use, the concentration is far more increased. And during breastfeeding that stored THC gets in the milk and then in the baby. The babies with this kind of effect will feel sleepy all the time. Reports suggest that babies who are exposed to this situation experienced a problem in their growth and there is a significant decrease in its metabolism rate. So overall development will be hampered.

Consumption of marijuana on a constant basis change the chemical composition of the milk. Reports suggest that there is a significant decrease in the amount of the breast milk production. It reduces the prolactin concentration which, reduces the milk production. From the biochemical studies, it was found that the metabolism of the DNA (Deoxy-ribonucleic acid) and RNA (Ribonucleic Acid) and the proteins responsible for the growth of the body is actually hampered by tetrahydrocannabinol. It is evident in the urine of the baby.

Marijuana use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is strictly prohibited because the effects on the baby are fairly large. Never a mother will want to harm their baby is such a cruel way. So the best way is to stop and get rid of the addiction to cannabis. And breastfeeding should be done at least 90 days after quitting so that it gets away from the body totally.
